MUSCAT BLANC VARIETY CULT

The last grapes of the 2022 Muscat blanc variety.

We harvested the last grapes of the 2022 Muscat blanc variety on November 5.

They are intended for the preparation of Inri wine and have reached incredible sweetness, and because our vineyard is located in the Czech wine region, they do not lack pleasant acidity.

MUSCAT BLANC VARIETY CULT

The Muscat blanc variety is the most important variety in our country and the wines made from it reach top quality. They are unbeatable in aroma, taste and body, and their price in advance sale (En primeur sale) is calculated, shortly after twisting and before ripening, in thousands of crowns.

WHY MUSCAT BLANC?
Each of the winemakers has their "favorite" on the "place", but in our country it is not just a matter of hearts. Nutmeg deserves and deserves its privileged position.

He is beautiful (the first one dresses in light green and the last one undresses) or decorative and nice to look at.
It is reliable in fertility and with grapes you can create miracles in selection.
It does not suffer from mold and tolerates high management very well. This is fully in line with our strategy, as we avoid chemistry and artificial fertilizers and have opted for prevention and organic instead.
The must reaches a high sugar level, but develops to dryness during long-term fermentation. During fermentation, the young wine does not form a "veil" on the surface and works long and long (from October to April).

Alcohol in the Selection class reaches 14%
The resulting wine is a real delicacy and balances on the edge of total harmony (which is a phenomenon completely unseen), so the ratio of sugar and acid is in balance.
Muscat blanc from Smrkový Týnec is, in a short period of its existence, one of the best European "primitive" wines made from this variety.
Since last year, its entire production (only a few boxes that are currently being produced) is aimed exclusively abroad.
Like all our wines, the production of musts and wine is not sulphurized, trained, filtered and the grapes are not pressed, but carefully pressed.

AND ITS LEAVES SMELL IN GREEN AND DRIED STATES.

Muscat blanc grapes are being discussed for the preparation of our extraordinary wine from September to ...
The collection is repeated and the wine consists of literally dozens of musts at various stages of maturity, sugar development and aromatic substances. It is therefore inimitable and unrepeatable.

The selection of grapes for the production of our nutmeg in the Selection category (in others it is not even produced) is a daily affair. The grapes are inspected, repackaged and cared for. The Muscat blanc variety has a major advantage in the long-term nutrition of the grapes (the foliage is green until late autumn) and the grape itself and the stem are subject to control.

Each of the heads has its own "birth certificate".

The Muscat blanc variety is one of the oldest wine varieties in the world and the wines made from this variety were the first the world has ever seen.

An original way of keeping vines in our vineyard.

Because we are struggling with the characteristic weather of the foothills of the Iron Mountains in our vineyard, we try to eliminate its effects on ripening grapes and the plants themselves. We moved from "head line" to "high tree line."

It is known that not all vine varieties tolerate this method of management.
We lead the spring cut to the main trunk and the backup buck (in case of severe frosts), Na 3.-4. we will leave traction between 6.-8. eyes.

We create two floors for the grapes to ripen (ideal for the next selection).

An overview of the length and inflorescence date of Muscat blanc in our vineyard since 2017.

The beginning of the inflorescence and its successful course are among the most important factors influencing the future harvest. The Muscat blanc variety is one of the lovers of warm, dry summer and it thrives in hot years.

Therefore, it is undesirable for the inflorescence to be prolonged by adverse weather conditions. After all, it takes almost two months for the grapes to ripen from the end of the inflorescence.

2017
The beginning of inflorescence on June 5 (in the range of May 17-18-19, devastating frosts of -6 ° C prevailed in the vineyard). End of inflorescence June 19. Very bad year.
2018
Beginning of inflorescence on May 20. End of inflorescence June 1. No negative weather conditions and no freezing "ice men". The first of hot and dry years. The harvest was very rich and high quality.
2019
Beginning of inflorescence on May 5 and end of May 16. (warmest and driest year since the beginning of monitoring). The grapes have matured, without any problems, to top quality.
2020
Beginning of inflorescence on June 12 and end on June 30. During the month of May, the morning temperature did not rise above 7 ° C and it was still raining. The harvest was of decent quality, but the grapes did not reach high maturity due to the rainy May.
2021
Beginning of inflorescence on June 2 and end on June 14. The delayed onset of higher temperatures was marked by the late onset of flowering, but the hot July, the second half of August and especially the sunny September contributed to the ripening of the grapes to a high quality.

2022

We registered the beginning of flowering on June 6 and the end on June 17. Even though May was a rainy month, the fading rain avoided the inflorescence and Muscat blanc bloomed without any major problems. The bunch of grapes was extraordinary (the selection of unpromising varieties played its role and with it a higher level of light for the Muscat blanc bushes). The whole of June, July and August there was very little rain and only once there was more wind, so the grapes were poured without problems and picked up sugars. The vintage of 2022 is the first time that Muscat blanc grapes have reached the quality for the preparation of wines of quality status Exceptionnel and even for Inri. However, September was a rainy month and surprisingly cold, but October made up for it. It was an exceptionally warm and beneficial month for the vines.

World famous wines made from the Muscat blanc variety.

The Muscat blanc variety forms the basic building block for the preparation of the famous Tokaj wines. Preconceptions about its easy susceptibility to fungal diseases and therefore its unsuitability for over-ripening and long-term leaving on the bushes until the arrival of Botrytis mold have long since ceased to apply. We know from our own experience that Muscat blanc, if given proper care, can produce grapes that the vast majority of winemakers can only dream of.

Another very well-known wine made from this variety is the Greek liqueur wine Samos Vin doux naturel Grand cru. On the island of Samos, special attention is paid to the Muscat blanc variety and it makes up more than 90% of the total varietal composition of the vineyards cultivated here.

Another well-known wine specialty made from the Muscat blanc variety is the wine from the winemaking icon of the "sweet Rhône", the village of Beaumes-de-Venise. Their famous and incredibly delicious Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is a blend of Muscat blanc, Petit grains and Muscat noir. This is a fortified wine.

Another, very popular, wine made from the Muscat blanc variety is the famous sparkling wine Asti (also Moscato Asti) from the Italian wine region of Piemonte.

If we talk about the Muscat blanc variety, we cannot of course forget the noble and very popular muscats from the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region, the well-known vins doux naturels from Frontignan, Lunel, Mireval, Saint-Jean-de Minervois.

But Muscat blanc is not

Muscat ď Alsace (Muscat is one of the four permitted white varieties in Alsace for the preparation of wines of the Grand Cru quality category) is not made from the Muscat blanc variety, but from the Muscat Ottonel variety.

And the famous botrytic wines from South-West France are not added to the Muscat blanc variety but to the Muscadelle variety.

Muscat blanc Selection 2021

Muscat blanc is a constant in our wine heaven and is increasingly convincing of its dominance with reliability and high quality. The 2021 vintage is spicy and distinctly aromatic with very pleasant acidity. It benefits most from a drinking temperature of 16-18 °C. Only then will it open up to unsuspected flavors without denying its belonging to a family of inimitably aromatic varieties, of which Muscat is clearly the king. Muscat blanc Selection 2020

Muscat blanc is the varietal "flagship" of our vineyard and it will also receive the attention it deserves in the future. The grapes for the preparation of this wine come from several stages of thinning. Their high sugar and long-term fermentation on their own yeast contribute to the creation of an extraordinary wine. Muscat blanc Selection 2019

Muscat blanc is the leading variety in our vineyard and the wine of the 2019 vintage is proof of the justification of the privileged position of this variety among others. The wine offers a completely indescribable taste experience, a lovely harmony between acid and sugar, a fullness and a scent dominated by lavender, quince and somewhere in the distance the leaves of withered January geraniums.
